About Our Club

The Hingham Base Ball Club in its current form was founded in 2007 by our Commissioner Emeritus Gary “Dots” Nesbit and Suzanne “Bugspray” Buchanan, Executive Director of the Hingham Historical Society at the time.

But Hingham has a long history of base ball dating back to the late 19th century. An early photo of one of the old town teams is depicted on the right. These men all pose with the same uniform proudly displaying the large Hingham “H.”

Our Club today consists of two teams, the Coopers, and Derbys. The two teams compete for the town championship, the Independence Cup, every Fourth of July weekend. The Coopers also travel during the summer playing other vintage base ball clubs from Rhode Island to Maine.
